Russell & All:
Once the GenExchange comes back on line, the history of these churches might
be a bit clearer. I used various web-sites of the Presbyterian and
Congregational [United Church of Christ] churches on the North Fork and was
able to figure out the genealogy of most of these churches ... most can be
traced back to the original church in Southold .. Puritan/Congregationalist
in the 17th century .. now Presbyterian. Eastern Suffolk County is a bit
more confusing than the rest of Long Island, since the move from
Puritan/Congregationalist to Presbyterian in the early 1700's across all of
Long Island, was confused by the establishment of later Congregationalist
churches, not affliated w/ the Presbyterians. I wrote all this up for the
GenExchange church site. Let's all hope that the GenExchange is up & running
sometime soon & all this data is available again.
Otherwise, I'd suggested "re-inventing" my wheel, and checking the URL's for
all the North Fork Presbyterian & Congregational [U. C. C.] churches. Many
have excellent histories on their home pages.
David
