No, they weren't confused at all. Hempstead, Long Island.
I don't quite understand your confusion with this... :)
but, I suspect it has something
to do with the fact that you may consider Long Island
somehow not associated with Queens. Queens County is, AND
HAS ALWAYS BEEN, on the island of Long Island. There is no
river separating Queens and Brooklyn from the rest of Long
Island. It's all one big island and both Brooklyn (King's
County) and Queens County are physically on the island of
Long Island (or the island of Nassau, as the native Indians
used to call it).
I hope this clears up the confusion... :) Remember, get
yourself a good map...
