Pat's right: The nyrensse list itself is of course for chat, just as the
Ohio list is for chat. But I wouldn't want our friend in Ohio to think that
we don't have meetings in New York, too!

Just as you have the OGO, we have the Capital District Genealogical Society.
They have meetings every month. You can read all about it at their website:

As Pat said, more and more searchable databases are coming online all the
time.

ARE ALL OF YOU READY FOR THE 1940 US CENSUS? It's about to be released on

The NYRENSSE is strictly a mailing list. I started the list back in
November 1998. Wow, does time go by fast! We currently have 248 members.
In the beginning the list was very active but that was before any data
bases were online and we all had to go to libraries, archives and Family
History Centers to do our research.

Now, the censuses and many of the naturalization records are just a
keystroke away. We don't have as many questions nor do we rely on each
other for help and support. So, the list has gotten slow. If you would
