EPISCOPAL BISHOP LAYS CORNERSTONE OF 'VILLAGE' CHURCH

The cornerstone of the new St John's in the Village Episcopal Church and Community Center at 224 Waverly Place, at Perry Street, was blessed and laid yesterday by the Right Reverend J. Stuart Wetmore, Suffragan Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New York . . . . .

. . . . In an interview before the ceremony, the Rev. Dr. Charles Howard Graf, rector of the church since 1942, observed that over the years St. John's had absorbed a number of Episcopal Churches that either closed or joined the movement uptown.

These included the Church of the Annunciation, St. Ann's, the Church of St. George the Martyr and the Chapel of the Comforter.
