Thanks for the responses to my question. I have enjoyed reading the links
and history provided.
Part of genealogy is definitely geography! And as a California Native I
have a lot to learn about my Brooklyn heritage.

I did find a reference to a
J.SCHANDEL near Oakland St.
But I was not clear if this is part of the Eastern District or what year
this information is for.
I am looking for the family of my great grandmother Marie SCHANDEL, born
1855 Eastern District- (married Ludwig VOGT- April 1878).
The parents of Marie are
Henry SCHANDEL and
Maria SCHOCK - according to later census data they were both born in
BADEN
