I have a page out of a Brooklyn Directory- I believe it is 1862-4.
Some of the entries have an E in front of them, and the notation that I
made at the time I copied it says E= Eastern District.

I have recently received information that my great grandmother was born
in "Eastern District" in 1855.

Can someone tell me what is the Eastern District?
