Subject: [NYALBANY] Rootsweb spam filter
Date: Sat, 13 Nov 2010 10:23:10 -0800
As many might know, Rootsweb works hard to filter out all the spam mail
sent to the lists. Recently they employed a spam filter program called,
Sorbs. Lately a number of my emails to various rootsweb lists have been
bounced back to me and my mail server sent me the bounce rejection which
stated my email address was not accepted by the Sorbs filter. I didn't
know others were having the same problem. In my case, I just kept
sending the email to the lists till it got through.
Today I heard that the posts from the server 'nycap.rr.com' are being
rejected by Sorbs. This a familiar server from the Albany/Troy area.
So, if you sent any messages to any Rootswebs lists and you are on this
server and your messages did not get posted, they were probably stopped
by the Sorbs filter.
As a list admin to many lists, there is nothing I can do about the Sorbs
filter blockage. However, you can, like I have, write to the Rootsweb
Help Desk and let them know about the problem. Hopefully, they will be
able to have Sorbs set their filter to let 'nycap.rr.com' mail through.
When you go to the Rootsweb Help Desk, go down to where you see the tab,
'Ask a Question' and then fill in the blanks and then your concern.
PS This is my 3rd try. I sent a post to lists I admin and it went through first try.
