Subject: [NYALBANY] Shea and Sibbald - liquor taxes
Date: Mon, 2 Aug 2010 17:48:10 -0700 (PDT)

The 1865 IRS Tax Roll for Albany County lists "Shea and Sibbald" as owing taxes
for a liquor type business. Couldn't really read the assessors writing.

The business was located on Olmstead Street.

John Sibbald died around 1865, and his son CJ later married an O'Brien quite a
few years later. A Shea was apparently a cousin of this O'Brien. And there is
a connection between the Shea's and the Sibbalds at St. Agnes cemetery.

After John died, his wife Ellen and her children are apparently running a
boardinghouse in either Troy/Watervliet or Cohoes. Wonder if the boardinghouse
served liquor?

Anyway, looking for info on the Shea who was apparently in business with a
Sibbald.

At one time, a gentleman named Ernie Shea was active on this list and was very
knowledgeable. Can anyone provide any clues?

Thank you.
