While searching for information a few years ago, and knowing that an
ancestor had died in Colonie, but being outside the immediate area, I called Town
Hall and inquired. The clerk had me wait while she checked for the name that
she had had me spell to her. No records for the individual were found. Seemed
strange, but that was that. Forward in time, we went to Town Hall when in the
area and asked again. The clerk brought the book to the counter but I wasn't
allowed to look at it directly. However, I was able to view it upside down.
The clerk missed the name we were looking for but there it was...and spelled
Reynold instead of Reynolds, with the s. One little letter made all the
difference in acquiring the death certificate the 1st time until we more or less
got to "see" the record book. Family usually knows what to look for, I think.
I would like to say that although the information was then typed onto a
modern form, the clerk was very particular about "correctly (mis)spelling" the
misspelled words from the original and I appreciated that bit of the original
record. The Colonie staff were very professional and pleasant. I have also
found Angie in Watervliet exceptionally good to work with.
