Hi there
Just checked out the Berne Historical Project webpage and was super
impressed at all of the material I found.
I am descended from William (H)enry Willsey (he spelled his name at
least 4 different ways on 4 different documents - Willsie, Wilsey, Wilsie,
Willsey, Wiltsey.) He was married to Maria Seger/Sager the daughter of
Fredreck Seger/Sager. I have a complete history of William and Maria from
about 1850 in Albany Co. until he died and was buried in Champaign IL in
December of 1913.
My problem is this....I have heard at least a half dozen stories of who
his parents were. In his records (mostly from the civil war) he claims he
was born in Berne, New Scotland, and Clarksville... on Sept 22, 1822, but
never any mention of his parents.
I do know that in the 1850 Fed. Census he was in New Scotland along with
his wife Maria and two children. He was living next to a Hiram Wilsie.
Is there a connection between these three towns New Scotland,
Clarksville, and Berne? While going through the webpage I noticed a lot of
names that rang a bell, besides Sager/Seger and Willsie etc, there were
Waggoners, Youngs, etc. Maria Sager's sisters married into these families
as well as the Flansburg family.
Hope this didn't ramble too much. It has been a major road block for me....
and I sure hope someone can help.
Tom in SW Florida
