State reveals a mysterious school district, a Starbucks who sold whale oil rather than coffee

A mystery of history has consumed Bethlehem Town Hall.<p>State archivists deposited in the town vault a thin volume with stained covers that looks as if it might crumble at the touch.
Town Clerk Kathleen Newkirk gingerly opened the 175-year-old book to show the handwritten notes for 30 years of meetings, dating back to 1827, involving School District 16. Trouble is, no one at Town Hall has ever heard of a school or district in Bethlehem with that number.
