I'm going to suggest that you look for the obituary of James of Cohoes.
His death certificate may tell his parents' names, even his wife' s name.
His obituary will tell family information. His death certificate will
tell where he is buried (probably St. Agnes Cem., Cohoes, and St. Agnes
Cem. in Menands has their records). Chances are he would have bought the
plot when his wife died, and that fact may have created information.
Survivors will be listed in the obituary. They can be tracked in the city
directories over the years. Knowing Cohoes, you might even find a
grandchild living the same house.
