The query on John Carroll in Kingston caught my eye.
My great-grandfather was JAMES CARROLL, born somewhere in Ireland around May
1852. His parents were Lawrence Carroll and Dora Conroy. He apparently
came to Hurley, near Kingston at the age of 18.
The 1870 census shows him at age 20 living in Hurley and working as a
stonecutter. He is living with:
John Dolan
Mary Dolan
Sarah Dolan
Peter Dolan
Michael Dugan
Michael Harris.
He marries a Mary Dunn and has four daughters in Hurley. Moves to Troy, New
York in the 1870's and dies there on August 11, 1907.
Have no idea if any siblings came to the US with him or what siblings there
were in Ireland.
Regards,
Bill McGrath
