Charlotte MacInnis 93, Sydney - We, the family of Charlotte Marion
MacInnis, sadly announce her passing on Jan. 19, 2009, three days after her
93rd birthday.
Born in Marion Bridge, Charlotte was the sixth child of the late Daniel and
Susan (Dixon) MacLean, Marion Bridge. Charlotte was a devoted mother to her
daughters, Susanne (Irving) MacSween and Patsy (Gordon) MacQueen, sons,
Bernie (Marie), Russell (Evelyn) and Lloyd (Norma), all of Marion Bridge.
She is also survived by her sister, Mora (Vic) Carrigan, Sydney. A
wonderful grandmother, Nanny, is survived by her 17 grandchildren,
Charlotte Ann (Frank), Jacqui Lee, Terri (Scott), Sandy (Jennifer), Louis
(June), Sean (Tammy), Jessica, Hughie (Tammy), Heather (David), Donnie,
Crystal, Stephanie, Joel, Ross, Kate (Chris), David and Jenny and her eight
great-grandchildren, Alexander, Leah, Nicholas, Spencer, Autumn Belle,
Beth, Jack and Charli. Charlotte was predeceased by her husband, Alex, her
brother, Archie MacLean and sisters, Dorothy Webber, Mamie Greene, Chris
MacVicar and Florence Cameron. Charlotte was a member of Sacred Heart
Mission Church, Marion Bridge, and was employed as a house mother for a
number of years at St. Rita Hospital. A gentle lady, Ma set an example for
all her family by living a peaceful life and giving unconditional love. The
family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Charlotte's
caregivers at Harbourstone Enhanced Care. Charlotte will be resting at
Sydney Memorial Chapel, Welton Street, Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, from 2-4
and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Mission Church,
Trout Brook Road, Marion Bridge, Thursday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m., with Rev.
Paul MacGillivary officiating. Interment in St. Margaret Cemetery, Grand
Mira. Family flowers only, please. Memorials may be made to the Sacred
Heart Maintenance Fund or St. Margaret Cemetery Fund.

Josephine 'Jo' MacNevin 85, Scotchtown/Halifax - Josephine 'Jo' MacNevin,
lifelong resident of Scotchtown, passed away peacefully at the home of her
daughters in Halifax on Jan. 14, 2009. Born in New Waterford, she was the
daughter of Joseph Blaha (Czechoslovakia) and Catherine Koval Blaha
(Poland).
She was an adherent of Calvin United Church and a retired nurse with 30
years service. One of her fondest memories was leading the class at Central
High School from which she graduated in 1941. She completed her training at
the New Waterford General Hospital and obtained her RN in 1945. Jo is
fondly remembered by former patients for her kindness and empathy. A
proponent of lifelong learning, she was an avid reader and student of
English history. In 1991 at the age of 68, having survived a bout of
cancer, she achieved a lifelong goal by obtaining her bachelor of arts
degree (University College of Cape Breton).
She will be sadly missed by her son, David (Ruth) MacNevin, Ottawa;
daughters, Barbara (MacNevin) White, Audrey (Roger Howse) MacNevin,
Halifax, and Eileen (Steve Page) MacNevin, Scarborough; grandchildren,
Logan (Cheryl) White, Sean White, Paul MacNevin, Ottawa, Kathryn and
Parnell Davis-MacNevin and Graham and Eleanor MacNevin-Page, Scarborough;
great-grandchildren, Colton and Julia White.
She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Alcorn MacNevin, brother,
Joseph Blaha, sister, Mary (Blaha) Hornig and grandson, Matthew Reid
MacNevin.
Graveside service will take place in August at Union Grove Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

Floyd Henry Stone 77, Sydney - It is with deep regret that we, the family
announce the passing of Floyd Stone on Jan. 19, 2009, at the Cape Breton
Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Corner
Brook, N.L., he was the son of the late Malcolm and Eliza (Marsh) Stone.
Served overseas, stationed in Germany as a gunner in the infantry. He was
employed at the Cape Breton Hospital, retiring after 28 years of service.
Floyd was a giant fan of the Blue Jays. Floyd is survived by his loving
wife, Erna, (Bombeck) Stone; his children, June Stone (Wade), St. John's,
N.L., Linda Stone (Derek), Sydney, Ellen Serroul, Sydney Mines, Rachel
Stone (Tom), Calgary, Alta., Malcolm (Donna), Calgary, Bill (Karen),
Calgary, Robert (Jenny), Point Edward. He is also survived by his sisters,
Barbara MacDonald, Betty (Johnny) Miles and Bertha Stone; brothers, Malcolm
(Marge), Raymond 'Bim', Harvey (Ann) and Bernard (Cathy); his seven
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Floyd was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Medina
and one brother, Aubrey. Visitation will take place Wednesday, Jan. 21 at
the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney at 1 p.m., one
hour prior to service time at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor
Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. Donations
may be made to the Alzheimer Society or charity of choice.

Raymond Robert 'Bim' Stone 66, Sydney - It is with deep regret that we,
the family announce the passing of Raymond 'Bim' Stone on Jan. 19, 2009, at
the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Corner Brook, N.L., he was the son of the late Malcolm and Eliza
(Marsh) Stone. Bim lived life to the fullest, he enjoyed fishing, cooking
and spending time with his family and friends. Bim is survived by his
sisters, Barbara MacDonald, Betty (Johnny) Miles and Bertha Stone;
brothers, Malcolm (Marge), Harvey (Ann) and Bernard (Cathy); his
grandchildren, Raymond, Ryan, Mikey, Tamara, Tanisha and Jesse Garon Lee as
well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bim was predeceased by his wife, Neva 'Cookie'
(Barron), sons, Trevor and Raymond, brothers, Floyd and Aubrey. Visitation
will take place Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 6-7 p.m. until funeral time at 7
p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sheldon Chant

Mary MacDonald 83, Glace Bay - It is with much sorrow that we announce the
passing of Mary Elizabeth MacDonald on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at the Glace
Bay hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and
Jennie (Bennett) Chauder. She was the last surviving member of her
immediate family. Mary was a family person, remembered by her many friends
as a kind and gentle woman. She is survived by her husband, Colin Francis;
daughter, Eileen MacDonald and family, Cambridge, Ont.; son, Tom and
family, Ottawa, Ont.; special grandson, Colin, Edmonton, Alta.;
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives
and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Colin
Gerard, sisters, Alice Locke and Marg Burns, brothers, John Chauder, Henry
Chauder, George Acker and Thomas Chauder.
Visitation for Mary will be held Wednesday, 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. in Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass of
Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Rev.

Clarence Richardson 83, Marion Bridge - Clarence Howard Richardson, 83, a
resident of Marion Bridge, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at the Cape
Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. A veteran of the Second World War,
Clarence served with the Merchant Marine. He retired from Sydney Steel,
where he worked in the mobile department. Clarence enjoyed his retirement
years, spending time hunting and fishing, which he loved. Surviving are his
daughters, Rose (Wilfred), Barrie, Ont., Jane (George), Edmonton, Alta.,
Sandra (Bill), Manitoba, and Carol (Darrin), Sydney; sons, Donnie (Debbie),
Westmount, Jim (Elizabeth), Oshawa, Ont., and Bill (Susana), Texas;
sisters, Leona (Rene), Whitehead, and Anna May, Brampton, Ont.; brother,
Doug (Daisy), Whitehead; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
special friend, Gladys White. Clarence was predeceased by his son, Leonard
and sister, Odessa. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be
held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Thursday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Stephen Mills
officiating. Interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later

William Hugh Simpson 74, Sydney Mines - We regret to announce the passing
of William Hugh Simpson, 74, of 45 Brooklyn Ave., suddenly on Sunday, Jan.
18, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines, he was
the son of the late John and Mary (Daisley) Simpson. He was a peacekeeper
in the Canadian Armed Forces having served in the Middle East. William is
survived by his wife, Elizabeth; son, William Jr. (Denise), Ontario;
daughter, Bobbi Marie, Truro; and grandchildren, Danielle and Natasha. He
is also survived by a sister, Rosina (Al) Smith, Dartmouth; sister-in-law,
Cecilia; nephew, Joseph; as well as many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces
and nephews. Besides his parents, William was predeceased by brothers,
John, Thomas, James and Joseph and his niece, Margaret. By request of our
father, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private memorial
service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in
William's memory may be made to the Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia.

Matthew Janega Halifax - Matthew Janega died peacefully Monday, Jan. 20,
2009, in Halifax Infirmary surrounded by his loving family. Matthew was the
son of Matthew and Josephine Janega of Whitney Pier. Besides his parents,
he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Ann Micak, his brothers,
Martin, John and Peter. He is survived by his son, Paul; daughters, Ann
(Neville Gilfoy), Janet (Doug Hayre), Susan (Danny Baird), Lucy (Dr. Jason
Hitkari); seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret
(Maryan) Dugandzic, Sydney River; and his sisters-in-law; many nieces and
nephews. Family will welcome friends at Dartmouth Funeral Home, Wednesday,
Jan. 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral, Thursday, Jan. 22, 11 a.m. Reception
to follow.

Ann Irene 'Rene' Morrison Sydney, Memorial Mass - A memorial mass for the
late Rene Morrison, mother of Lawrence, Neil and Dave Morrison, will take
place Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church, Sydney,
with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating.
