Subject: HENDERSON / MITCHELL - Etal 19th C.
Date: Sat, 7 Jan 2006 08:35:27 -0500

I have Mary HENDERSON who married George MITCHELL 9 May 1857 at the Presbyterian Church, Etal. She was age 24, a domestic servant, residing at Etal Mill, daughter of John HENDERSON, a farm labourer. Margaret HENDERSON (relationship unknown) was a witness.

George MITCHELL was age 23, a shepherd, residing Tindal House, the son of Nathaniel MITCHELL, also a shepherd.

Children include Hannah (b. abt. 1860, Norham); Margaret (b. abt. 1858, Cornhill); John (b. abt. 1864, Norham) and Nathaniel (b. abt. 1862, Lumley, Co. Durham).

In 1871 and 1888 census returns the family of George & Mary MITCHELL shown as residing Letham Shank, with George's occupation being shepherd.

However, the next entry in both instances is for Andrew MITCHELL, b. abt 1808, Norham, owning some 153 acres and employing several men, women and boys in that operation. At present not know if Andrew MITCHELL was related to George.

TIA for any assistance....Larry Button (Dundas, Canada)
