Does anyone know if citizenship was automatically granted to those who
served in Civil War? Mexican War?

My g-grandfather and two of his sons served in Union Army. Have been
unable to find naturalization papers, mostly because hard to tell where
to ask - i. e. what court. All three were born in Scotland. G-grandfather
and one son received pensions.

G-grandfather on other side of my family served in Mexican War. He
received pension for his service. But no record of naturalization. He
was born in Bavaria.
