This is all very strange to one who grew up in Loomis. I have heard the story
of how Loomis got its name and none of the this seems to match what I have
heard about the town. There are no buildings in or around the town that I
have seen that go back to before the turn of the century. also Loomis is 8
miles from Auburn and so if the writer of the stories from Secret Ravine is
correct in being 5 miles from Auburn then we have a problem with its position.
The name Secret Ravine seems to ring a bell but my memory can't seem to bring
it up at this moment. I will ask my brother if he remembers it and see what
if any we can do to locate it.
Also Loomis sets on what is called the Loomis Basin a large flat area and I
know of no gold mining near the town as the the gold was found more toward the
american river and also if one digs into the small hills surounding Loomis one
will find river rock from an extint river. There was some mines cut into these
hills but very little if any gold was taken from them. I have been in just
about every goldmine in the area and most were just shafts that were dug
strait into the mountian about 50 feet or so, with no sign of gold buring ore.
