Hi,

I finally got to the recorders office today.....it certainly has been a
crazy week....but I go on vacation next week and I knew I had to get this
done.

Some good luck some not so good.

At first I found nothing for Bertha Simmons. I didn't know this was her
maiden name. If there was a death certificate it would be in her married
name so....I looked for marriage certificates. I did have luck finding a
marriage certificate. Bertha was married to Harlow Ayres on October 22,
1899. On the marriage cert it showed that Bertha was a native of
California and Harlow was a native of Illinois. Bertha was 19 when she
married and Harlow was 24. The witnesses to the wedding were Mr. C.M.
Ayres and Professor H.H.(or possibly A.H)Simmons.

There was no death certificate for Bertha Ayers. I did find a death
certificate for Harlow V. Ayres. I thought at first that this was Bertha's
husband, but it was not. This Harlow is Bertha and Harlow's son. Harlow
V. Ayres was born August 1, 1900 in San Jose and died July 16, 1965 in Los
Gatos of esophogeal cancer. The informant for Harlow V. Ayers death cert
was Rollin H. Ayers 750 47th Ave Capitola California.

After the information on the marriage cert I did not see Bertha's name on
any of the data bases I looked at. Of course I did not have time (story of
my life) to look at things like Bertha Ayers marrying someone else so
possibly her death cert would have a different last name or any other
little "tricks" you try to find more information. I also did not have time
to look at all the Simmons/Ayers on the database to find other children of
Bertha and Harlow if there were any.

Do you have any other information about Bertha that you might want me to
try? Do you have a better location of her death....perhaps she died in
Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, Alameda, or San Mateo counties....If you
have anything else that might relate to Santa Clara County I'd be happy to
try. It will have to wait at least a week since my husband and I are off
to the Los Angeles for a week of vacation.
