Subject: Dennis Martin family

Father of Dennis Martin- the pioneer in San Mateo County- was William Martin
who was born about 1775 in Ireland. About 1832 he came with his wife to near
Quebec City, at Frampton, Beauce Co. Their oldest daughter was married in
Frampton to Michael Welsh. Their oldest son John, also married in Frampton and
moved to California in 1851. Another daughter, Catherine, married Simon
Fleury. The William Martins youngest daughter, Ann, married in 1838 in Quebec
to one of the Murphys. Dennis Martin was 20 in 1841 when he went with his
family to Missouri . His mother died there. They moved, father William,
daughter Ann(now Murphy) and sons Patrick and Dennis, again in 1844, this time
to California, with the Stevens party. Dennis worked for awhile for John
Sutter(1845).He bought land on San Franciquito Creek in 1846. Dennis married
"Bridget" Mary O'Neill in 1849 at Mission Dolores. They had 6 children -11-
Mary who married James Dixon, 2,3 -twins Lizzie -married Luke Murtha- and
Ellen- married Geo Edward Staples- 4-Joseph, the only boy, born 1857, 5-Agnes
Edith born 1861 and last 6-Annie, born 1866, married Henry Hiram Wyatt. In
1890, Dennis was presumably buried at St.Denis Catholic Church at Searsville,
but when the occupants of that cemetery were exhumed for reburial at Holy
Cross cemetery in Menlo Park, his remains were not identified.
