Win (and BEV, I'm still alive, will call you later):

This has gotten really really LONG----LONG---LONG, but it's full of
genealogy info., and as best as possible based on factual sources, for
those non-story, nothing but the fact types out there. Hey, but I have
some pretty good stories, if anyone would like me to share them in a couple
of weeks, wagon trail experiences, etc.

Guess we'd better stick to the e-mail Win, forgot we haven't hit the lotto
yet!

Thanks for the info. on Neil, Jeff, Carin, Ronald, Dru and Betty. It
sounds like each of them will be a good contact for various members of my
family research. If there are no direct family ties, the area and time
periods of our families appear to be in close proximity. The Smith and
Lewis names pop up in my GARNER and other families in the same geographical
areas. There were and are a lot of Sinclairs in the area of Jenny Lind,
Calaveras Co.

Dru lives within four miles of us in Calvaritas. We live in San Andreas.
Both are in Calaveras Co. We know Dru's family very well, her aunt was a
teacher at Calaveras High school, when I was a student. I'm from 4th
generation Calaveras Co. family stock on my father's side (adopted from age
2), 5th generation Californian on my mother's and 6th generation (so far)
Californian on my natural father's. Our children were all raised in
Calaveras Co. as well.

My GARNER'S (direct lines in reverse order) are:
Mom, Shirley Virginia GARNER Winkler, (b) 11/6/1920, Fresno, Ca.
Grandfather, Thomas Monroe GARNER (b) 6/25/1883 near Modesto, Ca., (m)

(m) 3/21/1881 (ages 20 and 19 respectively), Octavia FAUCETT, Empire, Ca.,
Stanislaus Co., EG (d) 10/27/1924, Fresno, Ca.
GG Grandfather, Charles Thomas Cotesworth Williamson Pinkney GARNER (b)

headstone).

Charles TCWP GARNER and family crossed the plains leaving from West Fort
(or Independence), Mo. on 4/17/1853 and arrived in California 9/15/1853.

On 10/24/1874 Charles TCWP GARNER deeded to Wm. Bruckner and E. H. Wooten,
Trustees of the Garner School District for $1.00 the SW corner Section 19,
Township 3, Range 10E, containing 1 acre in a square plot for school
purposes (form Stanislaus Co. records). Charles P. GARNER was trustee of
this school for many years. This school was in Empire. There were 21 boys
and 10 girls in the Garner School District as of the school year ending
6/30/1880, per the Stanislaus County Statistics if the Public Schools.
There were 32 students between the ages of 5 and 17. The teacher's monthly
salary was $60. The valuation of the lot, school house and furniture was
$900.

Mrs. O. S. Willingham, to said marriage. They had 3 sons, Chester, Ray and
Clinton GARNER. John shot and killed his wife, mother-in-law and himself.

Charles TCWP GARNER's parents were: William Tilford GARNER (b) 2/12/1793,
in Davidson Co. (formed from Washington Co.), Tenn. about 15 miles from
Nashville, (d) 5/6/1848 about 60 miles from St. Louis, MO. Mother, Mary
"Mollie" O'Neal (Neal) Nance (b) 1797, Charlston (Swain Township), N. C.,
(d) 12/17/1839.

Brothers and Sisters of Charles TCWP GARNER were: William Tilford GARNER
Jr., (b) 5/31/1825, IL., (m) Elizabeth PARLIER, (m) Lutitia (?); Fleetwood
Buchanan GARNER, (b) 9/19/1827, IL., (m) Juliana M. PARLIER (Elizabeth and
Juliana were sisters); Mary Ann GARNER, (b) abt 1828, Pinkneyville, Perry
Co., IL. (not proven), (m) Archie HOUSE (Perry co. marriages); Thomas
Falkner Renfro GARNER, (b) 1833, MO.; James Cortez Manrion Neal GARNER,
(b) 2/7/1835, Pinkneyville, Perry Co., IL., (d) 8/23/193, Los Angeles, Ca.
(m) 6/13/1872, Drucilla BUNCH Hopwood (? was Drucilla's maiden name Bunch
or Hopwood).

I believe Julia GARNER, who married Elias F. PARKER in Stanislaus Co. was
also a sister. Some of the references used were the Great Register of
Stanislaus Co., 1867-1898, and 1892 and 1894 FHC microfilm #0978590.

The town of Parlier, Ca. which is just north of Kingsburg is named after
William R., Elizabeth and Juliana Parlier's family (undocumented family
history).

William T. GARNER was elected as a Justice of the Peace of Fresno Co. in
1877 (Historical Sketches of Fresno County California). Fleetwood's son,
William Allen GARNER lived in Madera.

Rev. Thomas Falkner Renfro GARNER performed many marriages in Stanisluas
Co. He was also the proprietor of the Modesto House (Stanislaus Co.
Business Directory, whoops forgot to write down the year, but abt.
1875-80). The ad stated "The House is strictly a Temperance one, thus
securing quiet and comfort to its patrons".

Marion D. GARNER and Barney B. GARNER appear to be cousins, but I haven't
verified this yet.

Barney B. GARNER, (b) 1841, (d) 1891, (m) Mary A. (?), (b) 1852, (d) 1898.
Three of their children, Emily L. (b) 1874, (d) 1877; Gabriel B., (b) 1879,
(d) 1942, age 62 yrs., 5 mos., 22 dys.; and Dayronia H. (b) 1887, (d) 1888
are all buried with their parents in the Modesto Cemetery, Blk. 10, Lot 4,
Graves 5, 4,3,1 and 2 respectively.

Barney B. GARNER was proprietor of a saloon for several years in Modesto.
His establishment was one of those lit by gas lights for the first time in
Modesto by the Modesto Gas Works on 7/3/1876 (Historical Sketches of
Stanislaus County California).

Augusta L. GARNER, a native of IL. (m) J. B. WELSH (b) 1839, Dickson Co.,
Tenn., is very likely a cousin to the above Garners, but not yet verified.
Mr. WELSH was the proprietor of the hotel in Kingsburg. He was also
elected to the office of Constable, which he held for 6 years (Historical
Sketches of Fresno County California).

The dates of the marriages were taken from copies of the actual marriage
licenses or the Index to Marriages of Stanislaus Co. I still have a lot of
issues and dates to verify as to their accuracy, but the above is what I
have to work with at this time.

The Garners and their varied relations moved up and down the San Joaquin
Valley, with most settling in Fresno, Madera, Merced, Tulare and other
nearby counties. Many are buried in the cemetery at Kingsburg as well as
other locations of course.

| Hi, Harleigh and Sandy;
| Thanks for your interest. Diana is my granddaughter and temporarily I am
| visiting her mother and family in Boulder CO. I live in St. Paul , MN.
| Now if you are serious about costs under $1 mil, I'm sure I could
| arrange air fare to CA within that limit! Otherwise, there is always
| email!
|<Snip>
| The name in your post that stood out for me was GARNER. I have ? Garner,
| Edward, George, Hamy, Henry, and Joseph! Your other names don't fit me,
| at least not yet. However, I am chasing Box, Fox, Schroebel, Abbott,
| Fine, in Calaveras Co. Barclay has been helping, but I need more help to
| find Robert Abbott's children, Lucinda, Joshua, and Edward born 1850s in
| AR and to CA in '57. He married Mary StClair or Sinclair whose mother
| was Lucinda Blagg and father was Alexander StClair.
|<Snip>
| I am also chasing Abbotts, Fines, Tienkens, Thomases in Stockton, SF,
| Lindsay and Porterville; right now I am trying to find Alreu in Oakland
| and Citra in Bakersfield.
|
| Thanks again, Win Terrell
