Both of my Grandparents, and my dad were cremated, and the ashes were
scattered at sea. Doesn't bother me too much, as when I need to be
"with" any one of them, I can go down to the beach--any beach. (It's one
of my favorite places, anyway).
As far as research goes, all of them died in their counties of
residence. There still is a funeral home record that states where the
ashes were scattered. I happen to know by whom, in each case, and have
noted that in my database, but it really doesn't matter.
My mother also has plans to be cremated and scattered in the
mountains.
There is the option of being "Inurned" at a cemetery, if you think
future genealogists would like the memorial of a "place of record".
