And to add to the history lesson. The site of COP in San Jose is the
present location of Bellarmine College Prep. There is a train stop there
which is still called College Station.
California Wesleyan >COP > UOP and Santa Clara College > Santa Clara
University were both founded in the same year and almost at the same
time. Thus there is some historical rivalry between the two instutions
above and beyond the religious one. The bills of incorporation from the
Legislature had Santa Clara first but the Governor signed the California
Wesleyan bill first. Thus giving both colleges the claim to being "the
oldest private institution of higher learning" in California.
