Hi Win- I just found an old newspaper clipping, "HISTORY OF MILTON" written by
Warren Eproson. It states that the first hotel was owned by Harvey and Utter,
then a Mr. Fox built the Tornado Hotel. It derived its name from the fact
that the town was visited by a twister in 1872, which blew down the original
frame work. There is no date on the clipping which also includes a picture.
I also found on the M.E. Church South, the names of C.H. Schrobel, Eliza A
Schrobel, T or F Eperson, BJD Shroebel. I also have another history of Milton
that I will dig around and find for you. Just had a chat with my 96 year old
father (Charles B. Rhodes) and he said that he remembers Charlie Schroebel and
at one time sold wool to him. He also said that at one time Warren Eperson
was the post master at Milton and also had a store next to the post office.
My Dad's mother also had a store there.
