Hello List and Wanda,
I wasn't aware you hosted this list too. Good to see you.
I have a very small Nix connection, but very little information.
My great-grandmother was Viola Anginette Ballard b. 1-25-1872.
Her parents were Joel Thomas Ballard and Amanda Smiley.
Amanda Smiley's parents were John Andrew Smylie and Elizabeth Nix.
Andrew Smiley and Elizabeth Nix married in 1835 in Mississippi I believe in
Franklin County.
Just recently a lady from Lake Charles came to one of our Livingston
Parish, Louisiana Historical Society meetings and she claimed that Nix was a
married name for Elizabeth that she was born a Bennett and that Amanda was
not her child. Unfortunately the lady died before I got the opportunity to
discuss this possibility with her and to look at her source material.
I have no other information. I am looking forward to learning a lot on
this list.
