Could it be that they did not remain on PEI, but came into the States?

I will continue to pursue but I haven't a clue how to get into records in
Scotland. Guess I'll have to sharpen up a bunch! The records I really
need would have to be prior to 1784 and probably prior to 1750. With two
confirmed marriages between Nicholsons and McLeans - it stands to reason
they came from the same area - Isle of Skye most often mentioned but Isle
of Uist not out of the question.

Have you checked out any articles catalogued by PERSI through Inter-Library
loan?

At one time I ordered an article about a Nicholson who had been written up
in something and who died in Montana. I don't remember his name or any
dates. Next time you are in a genealogy library, you might want to take a
look through the listings in PERSI and see if he is yours and if there is
anything in there that you didn't already know. I dismissed it as not
pertaining to my family so I don't remember too much about it - sorry!

Maybe each of us will be able to solve our puzzles sometime in the not TOO
distant future and who knows...we might end up from the same family in
Scotland through brothers and cousins and nephews or something!
