HI All,

The George family originated in Heart's Content and many of them moved to
Scilly Cove (now Winterton). I have much info on the Scilly Cove families.
According to the book "I have touched the greatest ship", the George family
came to Heart's Content in the early 1700s. There was a fire in the rectory
of the Church of England parish and it destroyed much of the family history
from the early 1800s and for two generations, of all the villages in the
area, Heart's Content, Winterton, Hant's Harbour, Heart's Desire, for
example. We have put together much of the families of Winterton through
family knowledge and educated guess work and a lot of research. I don't
think the Clarke family was established in Scilly Cove only through
marriages. I should note, that a very old Tombstone found in the Church of
England cemetery was of a Clarke, but it appeared it was only a sailor of
the times and no "roots" were established. There has been speculation that
some of the George family became St. George when they became Catholic. This
has not been really proved, I have heard both sides.

Although I have some information on the Coombs families, they were mainly in
the Trinity area.

So is Thomas Clarke from Carbonear or Heart's Content or did he move from
Carbonear to Heart's Content then on to Norris Point.
The Clarke family I am researching is from Heart's Desire possibly Heart's
Content. My family is interconnected with the Clark, George, St George,
Lahey, Coombs families in Heart's Desire area. I believe many of the Clarks
are related.
I am looking for info on the following George Emma Clark who married Henry
George in 1870, a Mary Clark who married Anthony Lahey abt 1901, a Rebecca
Clark who married Ambrose Coombs abt 1895, a Robert Clarke who married Alice
Unknown abt 1908 in Heart's Desire, a Michael Clarke who married Ellen St
George of Heart's Desire, a John St George who married a Mary Clarke in
1905, a Eileen Clarke who married William Patrick St George in 1939 and last
but not least a James Clarke who married Margaret Coombs who had a daughter
Frances born 1863 who married George Lahey abt 1892.
Any help would be appreciated.
Leonard
