Hello Alan (& Shirley)
Yes, I am a descendant of Andrew Clark - through his eldest son George who
was born in Malta.
I did get a copy of his service record from Kew a few years ago and I have
deposited a copy
with the Fencible Society - it is in the filing cabinet in Panmure (is that
where everything is still kept?) There should be some other certificates
there - can't remember off-hand exactly what, but I still have a copies so
happy to share.
It is a bit expensive to have to pay a researcher - I did it when I was
living in Australia
and it cost around $A160 from memory - (single income no kids!) but I am
thrilled with what I received. As others have said, you go to the catalogue
on the National Archives site in England
and you can search by you ancestor's name and limit it to the WO series. If
you use a researcher who is familiar with military records they know what to
get, but they will give a quote first.
He is also mentioned in the Gluckman early coroner's reports in Auckland,
and I have a copy of his inquest. He was found drowned off the end of
Onehunga wharf - his wife described him as a 'low-spirted man'.
I am still in Hamilton and am a librarian at the University of Waikato and
can be contacted easily through work or home.
Regards
Heather
