My ggg grandfather William Van Asten filed his Naturalization papers in 1897 as a citizen of Germany however I think it may have been in the Netherlands region
He married Ane Cathrine Fischer in Vamdrup, Ribe, Denmark in Oct 20, 1859 and had 2 sons before moving temporarily back to Harburg Germany & then left Hamburg for America in 1886.
Have been unable to locate anything further back & any help would be appreciated.
