Terry K. Rieke
Terry K. Rieke, 62, of Aurora, died Thursday morning, Jan. 6, 2005 at
his home.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 10 at Messiah Lutheran Church in
Aurora with Pastors Sheryl and Chris Kester-Beyer officiating. Burial was

Terry K. Rieke, son of Willard and Anita (Day) Rieke, was born Dec.
7, 1942 in Colorado Springs, Colo. He grew up in Chester where he
graduated from Chester High School He attended Fairbury Junior College
and graduated from Kearney State College with his bachelor and masters
degrees in education. He was an accomplished athlete during his high
school and college years.
He married Karen Hellbusch June 10, 1962 at St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church in Gilead.
He coached and taught school in Nebraska for 12 years at Campbell,
Benkelman, Hastings Adams Central and Tecumseh. In 1976 he joined LeDoiyt
Land Management. He worked for LeDoiyt until 1997. He worked briefly for
Hertz Management until he began RGA Farm Management and Realty in 2001.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora and served on
the church council.
He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was past president of the
Aurora Chamber of Commerce and served on the Aurora Country Club board of
directors. He was a member of the Aurora Rotary Club and numerous
professional farm management and insurance organizations. He enjoyed
traveling with is wife and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his father, Willard Rieke; his wife, Karen; one
son, Randy (Kellie) Rieke of Lexington; two daughters, Robyn (John)
Schultheiss of Kearney and Roxann (Gregg) Holliday of Arlington; seven
grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three great-step-grandchildren;
a sister, Susan (Ron) Moxham of Lincoln; a sister-in-law, Dawn (Roger)
Kendall of Reynolds; a brother-in-law, Norman (Juleen) Hellbusch of
Monument, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

John C. Condon
John C. Condon, 81, of Aurora, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 at his
home.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, Jan. 10 at the
Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora with Rev. Monty Nelson
officiating. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery. Condolences may be

John C. Condon, youngest son of Guernsey H. and Elizabeth
(Schneider) Condon, was born Sept. 23, 123 in Aurora where he grew up and
graduated from Aurora High School in 1940.
He married Hazel Olsen Sept. 11, 1946 in Aurora. They began their
life together on the family farm. In 1955 they moved to Aurora where he
worked with his brother, Charles, at Condon Irrigation and Well Drilling
Company. For several years he worked at the Army Ordnance Plant in Grand
Island. He became a Modern Woodmen of America agent, obtaining a
realtor’s license and in 1977 he established Condon Real Estate and
Insurance. Up until the time of his death, he was still an active realtor
and insurance agent, dealing primarily in farm appraisals in the local
area.
He was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, serving
on church committees and singing in the church choir. He enjoyed golfing,
fishing, woodworking and playing the piano. He particularly enjoyed his
daily visits with his close friends in the breakfast and coffee groups.
In the later years of his life, he dedicated himself to the care of his
wife, Hazel.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Jim (Shirley) Condon of
Lincoln; two daughters, Sharon Nell of Satellite Beach, Fla. and Cindy
(John) Powers of Kapolei, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Jason and Kelly
Powers, Michelle (Bill) Fowler and Mike Condon; one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marion,
Lawrence and Charles and a sister, Lucile Van DeWalle.

Thelma J. Fenster
Thelma J. Fenster, 84, of Aurora, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 205 at
Colonial Corner in Aurora.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 10:30 a.m. in
the Aurora United Methodist Church with Rev. Seth Leypoldt officiating.
Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m.

Thelma J. Fenster, daughter of Fred and Jennie Penner, was born Jan.
3, 1921 in Stockham where she grew up and attended school.
She married Dale Donald Fenster Nov. 9, 1940 in Dennison, Iowa.
While he was in the service, she lived in Hampton. When he returned from
the war, they moved to Aurora where they raised their family. In 1968 she
went to work at Hamilton Manor in Aurora and worked there 16 years until
retiring in 1984. She moved to Colonial Corners after 1998 and enjoyed
her extended family there.
She was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church and Aurora
V.F.W. Auxiliary. She liked to attend dances in Stockham, the Flying V,
Liederkranz and the V.F.W. She enjoyed camping in the bus and fishing,
spending time with her family and grandchildren and playing dominoes and
cards.
Survivors include her son, Larry Dale Fenster of Aurora; two
daughters, Janice Kay (Lloyd) Opp of Aurora and Beverly (Keith)
Collingham of Aurora; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Newlun of Aurora and Anne
Medaris of Olathe, Kan.; three brothers, LeRoy “Fritz” Penner and
Lawrence “Curly” (Betty) Penner, all of Aurora and Melvin “Jake” (Elaine)
Penner of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Fern Penner of Hastings and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother,
Ernest Penner.

Donald C. Enderle
Donald C. Enderle, 86, of Aurora, died Friday morning, Jan. 7, 20-5
at his home.
Funeral services were Monday morning, Jan. 10 at the United
Methodist Church in Aurora with Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Burial was

Donald C. Enderle, son of Arthur A. and Lydia S. (Arndt) Enderle,
was born Feb. 14, 1918 on a farm southwest of Hampton.
He grew up in the Hampton area and attended country school through
the eighth grade. In 2002 he was very proud to receive his high school
diploma from Aurora High School through a veteran’s program called
Operation Recognition.
He served in the Army Air Corps from October 1942 to February 1946.
He married Wanda W. Cosier on Dec. 24, 1944 at the Federated Church
in Aurora. They began their life together in Kissimmee, Fla. where he was
stationed. After his discharge, they returned to Aurora where they were
engaged in farming. In 1950 they moved to their present home where they
farmed until his retirement in 1993.
He was an active member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church
where he served as treasurer. After the merger with the Methodist Church,
he continued to be treasurer for a total of 24 years. He was a trustee of
the Methodist Church and served on various boards.
He was active on the Soil Conservation Board, was a Mason and
belonged to the Lions Club and American Legion. He enjoyed bowling and,
in his younger years, participated in baseball. He enjoyed going to
cattle shows in Nebraska and other states.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Kathy (Gayle) James of
Aurora; three grandchildren, Susan (Cory) Pawloski of Omaha, John James
of Lincoln and Jeff James of Aurora; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clarence.

Royce W. Gustafson
Royce W. Gustafson, 61, of Aurora, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at his
home.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. at
Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora with Rev. Brian Kottas officiating.

Royce “Jack” Walter Gustafson, son of C. Walter and Violet Vera
(Veed) Gustafson, was born Aug. 7, 1943 in Hampton.
He grew up in Marquette and graduated from Marquette High School in
1960. He then attended Midland College in Fremont.
He worked for the Nebraska Horse Race Circuit for many years and
later enjoyed attending horse races.
He was a member of the American Legion where he was involved with
the baseball stag. He was an avid golfer and loved working crossword
puzzles.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren
Church in Marquette.
He married Nona Morgan in June 1970 until 1981.
He and Vicki Lange were together since 1988 and were married Oct. 8,
2003 in Aurora.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jamey Gustafson of Las Vegas,
Nev. and Ryan “Rudy” Gustafson of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Eldon
(Valeria) Gustafson of Phillips; three sisters, Donna (John) Erlenbusch
of Ceresco, Connie Gustafson of Kearney and Karen (Del) Cox of Aurora; a
sister-in-law, Janice (Don) Kruse of Aurora; three aunts, Jean Bister of
Aurora, Doris (Dale) Plummer of Central City, Doris Veed of Central City;
one uncle, Lawrence (Jean) Veed of Central City; many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles; one
nephew, Stacy Kruse; an infant niece, Kristi Lea Kruse and a
great-nephew, Jacob Gustafson.

Stanley L. Gustafson
Former Phillips resident Stanley L. Gustafson, 86, of Grand Island,
died early Tuesday morning, Jan. 4, 2005 at St. Francis Medical Center in
Grand Island.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 7 at Monroe Evangelical Free
Church north of Murphy with Rev. Mark Dunham officiating. Burial was in

Stanley Leon Gustafson, son of Walter Benjamin and Myrtle Huldah
(Pearson) Gustafson, was born Jan. 10, 1918 in Hamilton County where he
grew up and graduated from Phillips High School in 1936.
He was a World War II veteran, serving his country from April 1942
to December 1945.
He married Marian G. Westlund on Jan. 26, 1946 at Monroe Evangelical
Free Church.
He loved to farm and was involved in farming all his life until he
retired. He continued to help on the farm as long as he was able.
He was a member of Monroe Evangelical Free Church where he served as
deacon and held various positions.
His life activities revolved around his church and family. He also
served on various boards in the community and for many years served on
the Bader Park Board. He was active for many years in the Hall County and
Hamilton County Association for Retarded Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; three sons, Randall (Linda)
Gustafson of Phillips, David Gustafson of Grand Island and Craig (Rachel)
Gustafson of Phillips; one daughter, Joyce (Mark) Dunham of Aurora; two
sisters, Ann Gustafson of Lincoln and Delores (Rodney Wendell of Axtell;
one brother, Eugene (Rae) Gustafson of Aurora; six grandchildren,
Rachelle (Trey) Swanson, Kristin Gustafson, Travis and Jaclyn Gustafson,
Seth and Ryan Dunham and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marguerite Bosanko
Former Aurora resident Marguerite Bosanko, 85, of El Dorado, Ark.,
died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at Oakridge Nursing Home in El Dorado.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. in the
chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Burial will be in the
Aurora Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Condolences may be e-mailed

Marguerite Lorena Bosanko, daughter of Harold J. and Sylvia (Kerr)
Mills, was born July 2, 1919 in Roggin, Colo. She grew up in Kansas City,
Mo. but spent each summer in Aurora.
She married James M. Bosanko Feb. 10, 1941 at Liberty, Mo. He served
in World War II and after returning from the war they moved to Bonner
Springs, Kan. where she was involved in PTA, Women’s Society, School
Board and Federated Women’s Club.
After her husband died in 1958, she raised her three boys by
herself, working as a seamstress, clerk and florist in Bonner Springs,
Kan.
In 1973, she retired to Aurora to care for her mother and aunts and
worked for a time at Larson’s. She spent the last 12 years of her life in
Minnesota with her son, Dave and in Arkansas with her son, Rob.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora
and Bonner.
Survivors include her three children, Rob Bosanko of El Dorado,
Ark., David Bosanko of Cambridge, Minn. and Dan Bosanko of St. Augustine,
Fla; two brothers, E.J. (Evelyn) Mills of Aurora and H.J. (Barbara) Mills
of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters-in-law, Pam and Barbara; four
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and
daughter-in-law, Janet Bosanko.


Bob Hunrich, Sr.
Bob Humrich, Sr., 90, of Grand Island, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at
the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Mr. Humrich was cremated. A joint memorial service for he and his
wife, Ruth, who died in 1994, will be held later in the spring. More
details will appear later.

Elizabeth E. Strobel
Elizabeth E. Strobel, 87, of Central City, formerly of Clarks, died
at Long Term Care in Central City Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at St.
Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City with Rev. Bradley Rick
officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, Jan. 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at
Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in the Greenwood
Cemetery at York. Condolences may be sent to the family at

Elizabeth Ellen Cotner was born May 4, 1917 in York to Claude Clay
and Estella Bell (Sands) Cotner. She grew up in the Bradshaw area and
graduated from Bradshaw High School in 1934.
On Oct. 11, 1936, she married Leonard W. Strobel at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church in York County. They lived in Cozad until 1940. They
moved to Vallejo, Calif. where he worked in the shipyards. In 1946, they
returned to Nebraska to live in Clarks where they purchased the W.O.
Golden Building and opened their business, Strobel Blacksmith. He died
Feb. 19, 1996.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City; the
Nebraska Blacksmith and Welder’s Auxiliary and the National Blacksmith
and Welder’s Auxiliary. For many years, she worked on the Election Board
in Clarks and was active in the Clarks community.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard; her son, Dwight W. (Barbara)
Strobel of Central City; her daughter, Janet L. (Ron) Kershaw of Clarks;
her grandchildren, Sheryl Strobel McKinnis, Steven Strobel, Scott
Strobel, Shane Strobel, Eric Manstedt and Mitchell Manstedt; nine great
grandchildren; two brothers, Harry T. Cotner of Greeley, Colo. and Kelso
L. Cotner; one sister, Erma M. Nienhueser of Walla Walla, Wash.
