Subject: Ehret and Ehreth Families of Sioux County
Date: Thu, 16 Jan 2003 15:23:49 +0000

My grandfather, Michael Ehreth lived in Sioux County and worked between
there and Mandan for many years, one of the original pioneers or the State.

He filed and received an approved patent for land pursuant to the
Homesteader's Act in the area of Solen, North Dakota or Odense area near
Solen. On that paper, he spells his name as Ehret as he did when he applied
for citizenship. Somewhere along the line, he added an "h" after the final
"t." I am looking for someone on the mailing list that might have a story
to explain this change. His brothers, August and John, and a sister
retained their original spelling.

I am also stumped regarding finding the immigration papers for him. He
would have come through around 1893 and I believe with his brothers and
sister. Does anyone have any idea of when the others might have come
through, was it Ellis Island and was Michael shown as a member of the
other's families?

Regards,

Don Ehreth
