I noticed two mentions of Joseph Porter, Sr. in the last NCWILKES Digest. I
assume this is the Joseph Porter who was married to Sarah Reynolds and died
in 1820 in Wilkes County. I am relatively certain that Joseph Porter, Sr.
was my 5-G grandfather and I am looking forward to corresponding with others
who are tracing the Joseph Porter line. Welborn C. Porter and his wife
Elizabeth L. Johnson (my 2-G grandparents) migrated from Wilkes County to
Indiana between 1859 and 1862.
Descendants of the Wilkes County Porters who are researching this family and
its branches are planning to get together in North Wilkesboro in July 2003 to
share information and compare notes. Looking forward to the occasion.
