Teri, don't know if this will help but here goes, I have a set of books by
John C. Rosser, Jr. on the Williams family of Sampson and Cumberland Co.,
there is a whole chapter on the Dawson you mentioned here is the first part
Mary Butler, daugther of Robert Butler and Elizabeth Williams, was born
about 1806 died 20april1849 in Sampson Co. She married William Dawson, son of
Joesph Dawson and Sally Morning. He was born 24july1801 and died in 1853 in
Sampson Co. Eight Children
The four Dawson families listed in the 1850 census of the Northern
Division of Sampson Co: Burwell, Dwelling 568; Joseph, Dwelling 569;
William, Dwelling 571;and Henry, Dwelling 601, are those of the sons of
Joseph Dawson. In Dwelling 571 are listed William Dawson, age 48, with real
estate valued at $1500; Joseph, age 19; Robert, age 15; William,age13;
Sally,age12; Nancy,age9; David,age 8; and Burwell, age 6.
William married second Mrs. Hepsey I. Hines. No children. Her dower of
100 acres was sold 23nov1853 to Joseph B. Dawson for $172(deed book 32s, p.78)
The lands of William Dawson (Sr.) were divied 18april1855 by D.A.
Bizzell, Joel Jackson, Willie B. Jackson, and Sampson D. Jackson between
William Dawson, 53 acres; George McLamb and wife Elizabeth A.
(Dawson),54acres; Nancy E. Dawson.48 acres; Sarah Jane Dawson,45 acres; David
H. Dawson,53 acres; Joseph B. Dawson,48acres Robert Dawson, 48 acres; and
Burrell Dawson,46 acres, totaling 395 acres valued at $1096 (Deed Book 32s,
p.460). This same propety, then measuring 415 acres, was transferred from
Joseph Dawson, Sr. to son William Dawson on 31jan1837(Deed Book 25s, p.168)
Mary and William are buried without marker in an abandoned cemetery
located on the northeast side of S.R. 1453 about 2 miles west of Spivey's
Corner in Mingo Township. The children of Mary and William are:
1. Joesph B. Dawson was born about 1831. He married Sarah A, Warren
who was born 1837 and died 2nov1857, dau. of Needham Warren and Nancy Wilson.
After the death of his wige, "J.B." sold his land, 148 arces, to Needham
Warren on 28nov1857 for $500 and "went west" with no further apparent contact
with any of his family or friends. Sarah is buried in the Needham Warren
Family Cemetery located in the field to the west of U.S.421 and N.C. 242 in
Herring Township. No children
2. Elizabeth Ann Dawson born in 1832 and died 4jul1885 aged 52,
married George McLAMB
3. Robeth H. Dawson was born in 1835 and died 23jul 1863 at Richmond,
Vir. of wounds received 3may1863 at Chancellorville, Vir.
4. William Dawson, born 30aug1836 and died 26may1904, marrie 25nov1869
Louisa Jane Williams
5. Sarah Jane Dawson, born 18may1838 and died about 1902. "Jean"
married first about 1858 Wiley West. No children. Jean married second,
Dempsey H. Jackson. No children
6. Nancy Eliza Dawson, born about 1840 and died 28feb1897, married
Uriah West
7. David Henry Dawson. born1842 and died 3may1863 at Chancellorsville,
Vir.
8. Burwell Dawson was born about 1844 and died of pneumonia 17 march
1865 at Point Lookout, Maryland.
There is a whole lot more names of children grandchilren etc. if you are
interested let me know I will try and get copys made for you. Hope this helps
a little, Helen Ennis Williams, Fayetteville (Cumberland Co.)N.C., by the way
the Mayor here last name is Dawson, i beleive he is Descendented from these
Dawsons
