2/18/04: Information from resource: "Macon County, TN History & Families," in possession of Nita Drysdale-Wright: "Little known facts exist on the Jenkins family before they came to TN. Tradition is they came from "Ole Virginie," others say they came from Buncombe Co., NC. Wm. & wife, Nancy Ann, were the 1st Jenkins' mentioned in middle TN... The # of children Wm. & Nancy is unknown... In 1793 the Jenkins family was in Jefferson Co., near Dandridge... By 1796 the Jenkins families were found in Sumner Co. in the area that later became Smith, Jackson & Macon County, TN. Wm. died as an old man." [pg 301]
10/04: Info. from ancestry.com Family Tree, with following comments: Per Ancestry.com Family Tree of Wm. Jenkins. He had 2 children named Roderick Sr. Jenkins 1 b. 1743 & b. 1753. He also is shown as having 2 children; Jacob Jenkins and John Jacob Jenkins but shown on FGS as John Jacob from records from Macon County TN, which is probably correct.
Note: Wm's birth or death date is questionable as he would have been 113 yrs old when he died if Mar 1807; his death date shown on this source--although his birth-date of 1694 may be the date that is inaccurate?
William Jenkins is shown to have 5 children including
Roderick: Noah b. 1756; John Jacob b. 1756; Nancy b. abt 1760; and William Jr. b. abt 1762 on ancestry.com
2/18/04: Nita Drysdale-Wright found Roderick on 1920 TN census. Further information from resource: "Macon County, TN Hx & Families," in possession of Nita Drysdale-Wright, pg 301. "Roderick settled on the upper part of Defeated Creek in the vicinity of Russell Hill in Macon Co. He was married twice. The name of his 1st wife is not known. He married the 2nd time to a Miss ___ Pack, a full blooded Indian of the Cherokee tribe. They had 7 children."
10/04: Per Ancestry.com Family Tree of Roderick Jenkins. It appears that 3 children were triplets as all 3 are shown with same B-D, i.e., Mary Polly, John & Sarah Sally. However, they may not have same B-D's. But they are shown as listed. Nita Drysdale-Wright found ancestry.com records on "Nancy Elizabeth Pack" and Roderick Jenkins' 2 marriages. I also found Nancy's "full blood indian (sur)name was "Trail Kill" or "Yellowbird." Not sure yet which one.
1) His #1 marriage was Nancy Pack, but the "Family Tree" records show she was his #2 marriage.
2) They show "Jemimal" [It is spelled "Jemima" in Macon Co. TN records]. Parkhurst was his 1st wife, but in reality, it appears that she is his 2nd wife because of b-d's of her and Nancy as well as b-d's of the children.
3) In this source, Roderick's 3rd marriage shows "Nat Am Pack" as his 3rd wife, but evidently this is really "Nancy Elizabeth Pack."
So, these records are really messed up on ancestry.com.
However, with the records Nita Drysdale-Wright got from Macon Co. TN in January 2004, I believe I have now made the corrections. I believe now the children are in the proper order and are under the correct mothers on my paf files Family Group Sheets (FGS).
Hope this helps.
Nita Wright
