Concerning the John Woody & Mary Lindley family, there is a self published (Douglas, Kansas: 1968) book by Vivian Woody, "Kinfolk and Where They Lived 1638-1968." This book is available through NCLive, Heritage Quest,?and your local North Carolina Library (a password must be obtained from your local library) ?for free as a download on your personal computer. The only inconvenience is Heritage Quest limits you to downloading 50 pages at a time which necessitates closing your browser, dumping your cookie cache, signing back on and downloading additional 50 page increments. Of course, you may view online, the entire book. You will find several discrepancies between the information you already have and what the book purports to be true. This book would assist in providing leads to other more definitive resources. I would not rely on it as proof in and of itself.

Subject: [Q-R] Orange County, NC Quaker records, Lindley & Woody

I am researching a Quaker family from Orange County, North Carolina and need
suggestions of where to search.

Here is the family information that I know:

John Woody married Mary Lindley in Maryland in 1738. He died in Orange
County, NC in 1762. I do not know his parentage.

Mary Lindley was born in 1717, possibly in Chester, PA and died in Orange
County, NC in 1795. Her parents were James Lindley and Eleanor Parke. I have
no

dates or locations for her parents.

John Woody and Mary Lindley had a son, Joseph Woody who was born in
Baltimore County, MD about 1748. Here is the DAR information for his Rev.
War service:

WOODY, Joseph

Birth: MD Circa 1748

Service: NC

Rank: PS (Patriotic Service)

Death: NC Before (ante) 2- -1815

Patriot Pensioned: No Widow Pensioned: No

Children Pensioned: No Heirs Pensioned: No

Spouse: (1) Sarah Thompson

Joseph is the only child I have for this couple.

I need to find records for this family and ancestors for both John and Mary.

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Sue Russell,

a descendant of John Russell & Elizabeth Webb who were founding members of
Center Methodist Church in what is now Alamance County, NC
