Apparently you are referring to the guy in the following 1870 Census record:
Alamance Co. Thompson Twp.154 (all born NC):
CLENDENIN: William 38 physician $0,100; Sarah 30;
Harriet 8, Mary 3, Margaret 3/12
There's an Alamance Co. marriage record for W.G. CLENDENIN & Sarah J. MOORE,
2-15-1861.
It seems certain that he was the youngest child of:
William G CLENDENIN (1798?-1835) m.1818 Isabella JOHNSTON (23 Apr 1797-1847)
William G's 1835 Orange Co. will wasn't very informative: wife Isabel, "all
my children." Executor [brother] James CLENDENIN.
I think William G Sr. was son of old William CLENDENIN and second wife Mary
RAY (married 1791) but I'm sure a lot of Clendenin researchers would disagree
with that. Isabell was daughter of James & Margaret (CRAIG) JOHNSTON.
The widow Isabell's will was much more informative:
Isabell (X) CLENDENIN will 22 Oct 1847 (pr Feb Term 1848 WB F-394) "my five"
ch: James, Martitia, William, "my daughters that have married and left."
Exec. my brother James JOHNSTON; wit. Patterson THOMPSON & Johnston TURNER
(Contact me if you're interested in the daughters that had left home.)
William was listed as age 17 with his Aunt Mary PARIS (Henry's widow) in the
1850 Census of Alamance Co. I guess he was off to Med school at Census time
1860.
I'd be interested in knowing what you have on his family in Gibson Co. TN;
who his daughters married, dates for his wife, etc. If most of his family died
in TN, that would seem like a good reason to return home to Alamance Co. to
practice among long time friends.
