Hi Dee
How are you? I pray your son is well and back in the States.
Re: Jacob Durden 1755 - 1855.
We have conflicting info from the DAR and SAR re JACOB DURDEN'S service in the Amer. Rev. War. The DAR shows he served in the Ga Troops; the SAR has N.C.
In a previous lookup for Jacob Durden in #115 Roster of Soldiers from N.C. in the American Revolution, you were unable to find any Durdens.
Also from # 188 GRAVES OF REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIERS ... Jacob Durden, Emanuel [County] NAMES AND AGES OF PENSIONERS FROM GEORGIA EMANUEL CO. Durden, Jacob, 85 From # 98 EMANUEL COUNTY 5. JACOB DURDEN b. 1755 d. 1845 Served as a soldier in the Virginia Troops and later the New Bern District, North Carolina Militia.
He later received a pension for his services. buried: Cannady Cemetery, on the Brinson farm near Twin City
Re the old tombstone in the Old Canady Cemetery in Emanuel County, it reads Jacob Durden, Ga Troop Rev. War" The DAR made application and had this stone placed for Jacob Durden.
In 2004, Robert Canady, contacted the SAR's Georgia Regional Vice President. He provided the info on the stone from the DAR. The VP of the SAR had research done and indicated Jacob Durden entered the Militia from New Bern, NC. The VP then made application to the Veteran's Administration for the creation of the new headmarker. There was a dedication service in 2005.
Can you help document Jacob Durden's RS service? Was it the Virginia Troops and/or the New Bern District, North Carolina Milita, and/or the Georgia Troops?
Should we have looked for Darden or DURDINO? ... as you once wrote... "In # 541 there is a genealogical chart of DARDEN starting in the 1700s." - In 541, does it list a Jacob Durden born abt 1755?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE,
Claudia Cannady
