I do not know if this helps or not, but there is a Deep River which forms the boundary between Lee and Chatham Counties in central North Carolina. A few miles east of the community of Cumnock (which is just north of Sanford), Big Buffalo Creek and Little Buffalo Creek flow into Deep River, from the south side. If this is the site you are looking for, it is now in Lee County (since 1908).

Would you be able to pinpoint this location please and would you know of any Adair mention with Mr. Owen, i.e. were they from co. Antrim, Ireland ? Were they in the Irish military ?
Thankyou.
