Funeral services were held Sunday for Willis L. Gamet, 51, of
Iberia, who was killed Aug. 15 in a traffic accident near Greenup, Illinois.
Mr. Gamet was returning from a visit with relatives in Michigan when his
station wagon collided with a tractor-trailer unit.
He was a member of the Iberia American Legion and VFW posts. He
was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Gamet had been employed as an ambulance
driver in the Iberia area several years.
The son of Ervin and Beulah Stevens Gamet, he was born at
Vassar, Mich., on Feb. 19, 1912. In December of 1950, he married Elvia
Two brothers preceded Mr. Gamet in death. Surviving are his
wife, Elvia, of the home; his parents, Ervin and Beulah Gamet of Mayville,
Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold Haney and Mrs. Robert Holliday; five
brothers, Reynolds, Irvin and Donald Gamet, all of Vassar; Clifton Gamet of
Midland, Mich., and Floyd Gamet with the U.S. Air Force; four sisters, Miss
Maxine Gamet of New Jersey, Mrs. Gladys Beckrow, Millington, Mich., Miss
Velma Jean Gamet, Pontiac Mich., and Mrs. Beatrice Captian, Dearborn, Mich.;
and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Brays
Advent Christian Church, with the Rev. Harlie Goodwin officiating. Burial
was in the Union Cemetery under the direction of the Scrivner-Stevinson
Funeral Home of Iberia. Pallbearers were Freemont Shackleford, Myrl
Rollins, Calvin Whitaker, Buel Alexander, Ambrose Hake and Verden Rook.
