Hi Sarah,
This might give you some clues for where the Farmer's exchange was.
There are two maps of Buffalo as of 1917, prepared by the Sanborn Fire Insurance. One showing the city square is at:
http://digital.library.umsystem.edu/cgi/i/image/image-idx?sid=c57f9c33557ff1370020f05701f39ebb;q1=Buffalo;rgn1=umcscsanic_all;size=20;c=umcscsanic;lasttype=boolean;view=entry;lastview=thumbnail;subview=detail;cc=umcscsanic;entryid=x-sanborn0373.jpg;viewid=SANBORN0373.JPG;start=1;resnum=3
The businesses aren't named, but there are labels for the types of business that occupy the various buildings. For example, directly across Main St. north from the NE corner of the courthous is a building labeled "Gen'l Mdse" (General Merchandise). I know it's 13 years earlier than you are looking for, but the Farmer's Exchange might have occupied a similar building as on the map.
The other 1917 Buffalo map is at:
http://digital.library.umsystem.edu/cgi/i/image/image-idx?sid=c57f9c33557ff1370020f05701f39ebb;q1=Buffalo;rgn1=umcscsanic_all;size=20;c=umcscsanic;lasttype=boolean;view=entry;lastview=thumbnail;subview=detail;cc=umcscsanic;entryid=x-sanborn0372.jpg;viewid=SANBORN0372.JPG;start=1;resnum=2
A similar 1905 map is at:
http://digital.library.umsystem.edu/cgi/i/image/image-idx?sid=c57f9c33557ff1370020f05701f39ebb;c=umcscsanic;q1=Buffalo;rgn1=umcscsanic_all;size=20;lasttype=boolean;view=entry;lastview=thumbnail;subview=detail;cc=umcscsanic;entryid=x-sanborn0371.jpg;viewid=SANBORN0371.JPG;start=1;resnum=1
Tip: Click on the control to view it in the largest size. Then right click on the image to save it to a file on your hard drive. It is a JPEG image. Then you can examine it with any graphics/image viewer program you have on your PC.
Hoping this helps, but even if not the maps are interesting.

>The Cowen family in the 1930 census was listed in South Benton Township, Buffalo City. They and their neighbors are as follows:
>
>House # Family # Name
>1 1 Augustine Montgomery
>2 2 Arthur R. Andrews
>3 3 William W. Cowan
>4 4 Myrtle O'Bannon
>5 5 John W. Smith
>6 6 William N. McDaniel
>6 7 Clyde G. Owens
>7 8 John Williams
>8 9 H. G. Lovan
>8 10 Fred R. Morrow
>
>I am hoping that someone will recognize some of these names and be able to identify a street or neighborhood in Buffalo where they lived. And unless my historical memories fail me, I seem to remember that the Farmer's Exchange was located just off the square in those days, but I don't recall the direction.
