Mr. Gordon R. ALLEN, of Kalamazoo, Passed away Friday evening, April 24, 1998. Mr. ALLEN was born June 13, 1915 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of George and Elsie Mae (HARBACK) ALLEN. He lived most of his life in and around the Kalamazoo area. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1933, where he was captain of the debating team that won the county championship in 1933. He attended W.M.U. in 1935-1936 where he majored in music, and was a member of the men's glee club and the college choir. He was also a graduate of the Industrial Training Institute of Chicago in Industrial Electricity and Electronics. Gordon served in the U.S. Navy during W. W. II in the South Pacific for 3 and a half years, and was honorably discharged in November of 1945. He was a life member of the D.A.V. and V.F.W. #827. He was employed for 13 years from 1937-1950 by Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, and was District Manager for Empire Nurseries of Newark, NJ in Akron, O!
H for two years. He was also a field engineer in the electric department. On February 1, 1985, he was united in marriage to the former Arlene BEHLING who survives. Also surviving are a son, Dennis (Gail) ALLEN of Hollywood, MD; 2 granddaugthers, Pamela (Bill) HARMON, and Cheryl ALLEN; a grandson, Chris (Kathy) ALLEN; a great-granddaughter, Nicole; a sister, Gertrude NOSAN; a nephew, Michael (Patricia) NOSAN all of Kalamazoo, a brother, James (Betty) ALLEN of Oklahoma City, OK; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Tom and Cathy KRUGEL and Cassie and Willie SMITH. Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Pastors Hubert Johnston and Tom Tufts of Westwood Church of God officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the chapel. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery, with military honors by the V.F.W. in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the !
