Passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 22, 2005 at Tendercare of Portage. Rubey was born in Cadillac, MI, July 14, 1911, the daughter of Pearl & Maude (Harper) McLain. She was a charter member of St. Monica Church. She was employed as a dietitian at the Kalamazoo State Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1974. On Nov. 4, 1928, she married Lyle E. Baker, who preceded her in death on April 8, 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marian Baker; a son, Clarence Baker; two grandsons; four sisters and a brother. Surviving are three children, Pauline Skiles and Teressa (Laddie) Quick of Portage and Leo Baker of Kalamazoo; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Baker of Kalamazoo; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; her beloved sister, Ettie Baker of Paw Paw; six brothers and sisters, John McLain, Rachel Ellsworth, Raymond McLain, Bertha Wright, Helen Stiltson and Margaret Robertson; many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will!
be celebrated 11 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. Monica Church with Rev. Fr. Larry Farrell celebrant, followed by a fellowship luncheon. Committal services will be held 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at West Oshtemo Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Monica Church or the American Heart Association. Friends will be received at the funeral home beginning Tuesday afternoon where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
