Colorado Boxer Dies
A 19-year-old Colorado boxer, who collapsed after winning his first pro bout, died of a brain injury, a hospital supervisor said. CRESENCIO MERCADO had been in critical condition in a Pueblo hospital since winning the featherweight match with a first-round knockout in Pueblo last Saturday.

After his victory, Mercado climbed on top of the ring ropes and waved his arms in celebration. When he returned to his corner, his legs started shaking and he fell to the canvas. The former Colorado Golden Gloves champion was originally from Zacatecas, Mexico, and the sixth of seven brothers.
