The best source for birth records prior to about 1900 in Mexico is the Catholic church. The baptism register for the parrish where he was baptized would include his baptism information, including how many days old he was when baptized, his parents names and often grandparents' names as well.
Do you know what town he was born in? Many of the baptism registers are indexed on http://www.familysearch.org. I tried looking for his baptism register (though most of the index ends in the 1890s so he may have been born too late to be in the index) and his parents' marriage with no luck, but if you know what town he was born in you can order the film of the relevant baptism register book from your local family history center (they have about 98% of all Mexico registers filmed) and go from there.
