Totatiche is a municipality in the far north region of Jalisco, next to Colotlan. The only surviving indigenous ethnic group in the area are the Huichol (Warririka). The town was founded as a "reduction" (forced labor in haciendas) of tlaxcaltec and chichimec indians (the latter was a generic term applied by the Aztecs to nomadic bellicose tribes to the north of their empire that they were never able to conquer.
