Hi everyone:
If you are researching in Zacatecas, one handy hint for you to consider
is to know the area you are studying, know the towns, know the history.
If you go to Amazon.com and enter "Zacatecas," you will see the following,
among other entries:
Zacatecas State (State Maps)

This state map could be very useful to help you understand Zacatecas and
its borders. The borders between Zacatecas and her southern neighbor, Jalisco,
are very erratic and unusual, especially in the three-finger border zone
near Jerez, Villanueva, and Malpais. Your family may have come from a town
in Zacatecas, but your ancestors farther back may be from Jalisco.
Therefore, it is recommended that you visit the map library at your local
University, visit a Map Store that sells maps from Mexico, or go to Amazon.com
and purchase a map. Having a map will give you more clues and will open
more doors to your understanding of your ancestral homeland. The more you
know, the greater your chances of success. And when you see the towns surrounding
your ancestral town, it is important to consider that your ancestors may
well have come from these towns. And, at that point, a check of the Family
History Library catalog may point you to the records you need. And this,
recommendation, of course, extends to all states of Mexico and other countries.
Happy Hunting.
John
P.S. I do not work for Amazon.com and am only making recommendations to
purchase their product because it may be convenient for some people. If
you purchase from them, you may have to wait weeks for its delivery. A
visit to a local university map library would be a quicker route.
