Surname: SAIN ALTO, RIO GRANDE, FRESNILLO
-------------------------
Hi everyone:
Many of the records for northern Zacatecas before 1861 are not available
for some towns. Sain Alto, Rio Grande and Fresnillo all start after 1860.
However, the New Mexico State University at Las Cruces does have some records
for these places in their archives. They won't let you use this via interlibrary
loan, so you have to go there, but they do have a 1000-page booklet showing
what stuff they. Sain Alto's records go back to about 1790.
This is their site, look for the Rio Grande Historical Collection:

I am not aware of any baptism records available yet. Sain Alto, Rio Grande
and Fresnillo all belonged to the Archdiocese of Durango, and during the
War of the Reform (1857-1860), many Catholics priests left Zacatecas because
they were on the side of the Conservatives, but Zacatecas was under the
control of the Liberals.
I have not been to Las Cruces yet, but would like to go sometime this year
perhaps.
By the way, when I came onto this site, I noticed that you can press a
"frames" or "no frames" button. "No frames" is much, much, much, much better.
Does anyone have pictures or intimate knowledge about Sain Alto? I've been
unable to get any information except a little bit of stuff listed on the
Internet.
Thanks. Happy Hunting.
John
