Hi Christina!
Sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to you, but my son and I share
his computer and sometimes my time on it is short.
WOW! I wonder if these are "coincidences," as you say... . Here is the
only information I have on my grandfather, Benjamin Miramontes Sr.;
He was born in Momax, Mexico (a now re-named country?---can't find it on
any of my maps), on March 25, 1885---although his citizenship papers say
1885 and 1883 as birth years. No record of his parents' names, however.
My papers say he married Paula Mary Serrano on February 11, 1902 at Momax,
MX. She was born on January 15, 1889 in Faltenago, Mexico---I can't find
that on any of my maps, either. Her parents are listed on her death certificate
as Hillary (Hillario--?) and Moberta Serrano. They entered the US at Laredo,
Texas on January 31, 1916. Some of their children were born in Texas, including
my late Father, Benjamin Jr. Ben and Paula's children and their birthdates
are as follows: Guadelupe, 8-11-1910, Consuello, 6-2-1912, Soledad, 6-3-1914,
Juvencia, 8-25-1916, Jesus, 3-12-1918, Sarah, 5-22-1922, Benjamin, 8-8-1923,
Carlos, 7-31-1925, and James, 4-20-1928. All have passed except James,
who lives in Fifield, WI with his wife, children and grandchildren around
him, and Carlos, who was last known to be in CA and hasn't been around
for nearly 20 years (again!).
Benjamin and Paula raised their children in Thief River Falls, MN where
they lived until their health started to fail in the 50's. Anutie Sarah
then came and took them back to CA with her where they remained until their
deaths---she on January 29, 1962, and he on December 29, 1963. I have their
death certificates and also copies of their other papers that I got this
information from. My Mother recently told me that Gramma and Grampa had
wanted to get to Canada to live when they fled Mexico because of the Revolutions
going on there. I asked her if they had relatives that had already fled
to Canada, and she said no one ever said. I recently searched Canada and
have found that there are 216 Serrano's living up there, and 2 left out
of the original 5 I knew about of people with the name Miramontes. I plan
on typing a letter and printing it out 218 times and sending a copy to
each of the Canadian households to see if any are related in the coming
weeks.
So, that's what I know! Does it match anything you've heard from your Miramontes'
in the past? My Uncle Jimmy (James) in WI as as tight-lipped as all the
rest in the past when it came to answering heritage questions, but now
in the last 5 years he's been kind of sickly, so when I write my annual
Christmas letter I'm going to see if he knows anything I haven't heard
yet. I do have a picture of my grandparents right before they went to CA
and I will send you a copy if you'd like. I will also send you copies of
any of my documents if it would help. I hope we DO turn out to be related,
as it would be the best Christmas present EVER for me to FINALLY be able
to put ANY of the puzzle pieces in place for me, my grandchildren, and
now my grandchildren.
Hope to hear from you...
Sincerely,
De Miramontes-Johnson
