In 1927, The Amado Sanchez Family moved from Van Nuys, California to 803
Date Street, Los Angeles, California. Three block from Macy Street, near
Downtown Los Angeles. The neighborhood had over 300 hundred family in it.
All the neighbor were friendly and everybody knew each other problems.
The Los Angeles River was nearby and it was not cover with concrete. It
was the playground of the poors. It had sand, rocks, bushes, tress, and
all kind of birds in it. According to Albert Sanchez, also known as Roberto.
One of the sons of Amado, said that they were called the baseball team.
Because of his nine brothers and one sister. Also he said that is brother
Ishmael, nickname Smile, was a good person in judging people. Because when
he was young, he knew what was goin to happen ahead of time. We thought
he had psychic power, so we called him sometime chandu the magician. In
World War II, Ishmael Sanchez try to enlist into the army, but was refuse
due to medical reason? I believed, he worked in the shipyard removing barnacle
from battleships in Long Beach at this time. He had only a 10th grade education
due to economic condition of his time. But he was intelligence and street
wise. In or around 1950, Ishmael Sanchez worked for the Santa Fe Railroad
Company cleaning passenger trains car. He did this for eight or nine years.
But due to lack of opportunity and because, he was not white, he resign
