Hi Again Giena,

Please check your posts for "FRED" because I left you a post there as well.

Regarding trusting the age on censuses and other forms, Marilyn is correct, I believe, but some also did it to avoid the draft if it made them too old . . . best not to read too much into it I think.

Regarding misspellings: three general reasons for that are the enumerator did not hear clearly, but wrote what (s)he heard [I experience this even more as the focus of my genealogy research is Norwegian, and the Norge names tended to get written down as they were heard!]; the enumerator was simply a poor speller; and third, the enumerator's handwriting was/is so poor that the transcriptionist can only do the best they can with what they see.

Having said that, I always use as little of a name as I can get away with when searching an electronic database, IF I have enough other reliable parameters to search with . . . and use "wildcards" as well.

Regarding the birth record: as Marilyn mentioned, it might not be a bad idea to try to get a copy to verify, but I did look up the records you refer to and it is extracted from the church records rather than one submitted by an LDS member, so that is most likely reliable.

When I can get back to Lewiston I will try to find an obituary for your Charles.

Hope this helps,
Don
