I did a bit of sleuthing for you and came up with a family you should check out from the census. I did not find the marriage of Roland Emile MARTEL and Diana RICHARD. However, I did find that the only Roland MARTEL in the Maine census in 1910-1930 was in Lewiston the entire time and on May 11 1931 he married Helena (Heleria) CHRISTMAN. Heleria CHRISTMAN MARTEL died 20 Oct 1939, age 29, and is buried at Sts. Peter & Paul in Lewiston. So, it is certainly possible that Diana RICHARD is a second marriage and that they returned to her home in Canada to marry.

Here is the information I found about the only Roland Martel in Maine:

1910 Androscoggin, Lewiston
MARTEL, George, 26, b. ME, married 1 year, parents b. CAN-FR, weaver, cotton mill
Alphonsine, 19, b. CAN-FR, parents b. CAN-FR, emigrated 1904
Roland, 9/12, b. ME

1920 Androscoggin, Lewiston
MARTEL, George Etienne, 35, b. ME, paremts b. CAN-FR, weaver in cotton mill
Alphonsine, 29, b. CAN-FR, parents b. CAN-FR, emigrated 1903
Rolland, 10, b. ME
Jeanne, 9, b. ME

Roger, 6, b. ME
Julien, 5, b. ME
Rosaire, 4, b. ME
Gracienne, 3, b. ME
Yvette, 2, b. ME
Lillian ?/12, b. ME

1930 Androscoggin, Lewiston
MARTEL, George, 45, married age 24, b. ME, parents b. CAN-FR, ---- fixer in potting mill ?
Alphonsine, 40, married age 17, b. CAN, parents b. CAN, emigrated 1904
Rolland, 20, b. ME, laborer in woolen mill
Jane, 19 (all following b. ME)
Ovila, 17
Rodger, 16
Lucien, 15
Rosaire, 14
Gracieuse, 13
Yvette, 12
Liane, 10
Annetia, 6
George E., 4 5/12, Laurette 3 5/12

Georges MARTEL m. Alphonsine PARADIS 29 Sept 1908 at Sts. Peter & Paul, Lewiston.

Hopefully you can use this information for two things. First is to eliminate this family if they are not the ones, since there was no other Roland in the census. Second, to track down some of these children who may have living children who might hold the key to your mystery.

Happy hunting and let us know what you learn by posting here so others may find it later.

regards,
Sharyn
